Public Transport

A bus or metro ticket costs 2.15 EUR per journey and if you get the 10 pack of tickets, you can save quite a bit. A pack of 10 tickets costs 10,20€, provided you stay within one zone. A one-zone transfer from the airport costs 4,50€.

The Barcelona Travel Card can be bought for 2-5 day durations, allowing unlimited public transportation for only 14-32€. Getting around on foot is a great choice for the city center, as there is so much to see.

Barcelona Card

The Barcelona Card offers free public transportation and all sorts of discounts at museums, nightclubs, entertainment facilities, shops, and tourist restaurants. The Barcelona Card covers the Metro or bus and unlimited travel on all public transport. It comes as a 3, 4, or 5-day card and costs 45, 55, or 60 EUR respectively.

Taxis

If you’ve picked a great area to stay central or are out at cool bars or restaurants you likely won’t have to wait more than a few minutes to hail an official black and yellow taxi in the street.

Look for fluorescent green lights in the windows – these ones are free.

Currency in Barcelona

There’s no such thing as a ‘no commission’ currency exchange. If the fee isn't presented upfront, it’ll be absorbed into the exchange rate being offered. You can determine the real cost of a transfer by comparing their rate to the live mid-market rate. Here you have some options to exchange in the town.

Exact Change – Av. De la Catedral 1

Money Exchange – Carrer de Mata 1

Checkpoint Barcelona – La Rambla 15

Recycling in Barcelona

GARBAGE:

In Barcelona everyone, even the people living in the most expensive apartments, takes the garbage out and places their stuff in public containers generally located on the corner of the street. Taking the rubbish out is easy as in Barcelona we have a color code:

Grey dumpsters: normal garbage (for people who do not recycle)

Brown dumpster: organic material (generally places in organic plastic bags that you may purchase in the supermarkets).

If you are a recycler, you have separate bins.

Blue: paper.

Green: glass.

Yellow: aluminum.

There are also cartoons on the containers so that there are no confusions.
